چکیده

Northey, W. T. (Arizona State University, Tempe) and L. D. Brooks. In vitro conversion of Histoplasma capsulatum. J. Bacteriol. 84:577-580. 1962.-The in vitro fungus-yeast conversion of the diphasic fungus, Histoplasma capsulatum, has been accomplished using enzymatic digests of casein. Of these casein digests, the most rapid and complete conversion was found when Ferm-Amine Types I, II, and III were used. Technical grades of these products were found to stimulate conversion to a greater extent than the reagent grades. The use of these media as research and diagnostic aids is suggested.

In vitro antifungal susceptibility profile and correlation of mycelial and yeast forms of molecularly characterized Histoplasma capsulatum strains from India.

The antifungal susceptibility profiles of the mycelial and yeast forms of 23 Histoplasma capsulatum strains from pulmonary and disseminated histoplasmosis patients in India are reported here. The MIC data of this dimorphic fungus had good agreement between both forms for azoles, amphotericin B, and caspofungin. Therefore, the use of mycelial inocula for H. capsulatum antifungal susceptibility t...

Growth of Histoplasma capsulatum. VI. Maintenance of the mycelial phase.

A medium is described for the maintenance of the mycelial phases of Histoplasma capsulatum in their "original" condition of sporulation. A yeast phase medium is reemphasized, not only for conversion and support of the yeast phase, but as an indirect method of maintaining the mycelial characteristics as originally observed.

Phenotypic variation and intracellular parasitism by histoplasma Capsulatum.

The success of Histoplasma capsulatum as an intracellular pathogen depends completely on successful conversion of the saprophytic mycelial (mold) form of this fungus to a parasitic yeast form. It is therefore not surprising that yeast phase-specific genes and gene products are proving to be important for survival and proliferation of H. capsulatum within macrophages. In this study, we have focu...

Cloning and analysis of an actin-encoding cDNA from the dimorphic pathogenic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum.

We have cloned an actin-encoding cDNA from the dimorphic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum, an important pathogen of humans. The predicted amino acid sequence as well as the general codon pattern of Histoplasma actin revealed the highest degree of similarity to the actin of the filamentous ascomycete Aspergillus nidulans. Southern blot analysis determined that actin was encoded by a single copy in ...
